On 22nd December 2020 it was held final project meeting of the project ADRINET (Adriatic Network for Marine Ecosystem). Project is funded within the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro Program. Due to the situation with COVID-19the event was held through Microsoft Team platform.

During meeting, it was presented all activities that are performed within ADRINET project in all countries partners of project. Meetings was divided in three sections: first section related on Scientific findings of the ADRINET Project “From transborder lab analysis to practical tools for preserving marine ecosystem”. In this first section it was presented achieved results related to scientific investigation in terms of assessing and monitoring pollution of heavy metals, pesticides, antibiotics and microplastics in fish and marine water with aim to sea and biodiversity protection. Second section was dedecated in “Involving fishermen and local communities: ADRINET approach in tackling the ghost-fishing issue and in promoting sustainable fishing policies among stakeholders”. One of more ADRINET activity are focused on local communities and fishermen in order to involve them in the protection of marine biodiversity, and therefore the exchange of knowledge and experiences among fishermen is crucial for defining common methods of coastal fishing management in the three Adriatic countries.

Third section was dedicated “Beyond ADRINET: future paths for cooperation, lesson learned and micro-plastics as new threat to be addressed in the coming years”. Within this section it was discuss about achievement of all results and gaols of ADRINET project.

Realisation of the project started in March 2018 and it will be finished by the end of December 2020.

Partners on the project are:

ADRINET project is concept as a comprehensive set of activities aimed at improving the common coastal management system and creating management plans for biodiversity conservation and coastal ecosystems of the program regions, which share the same issues in terms of pollution, hunting, illegal fishing, and 'ghost fishing'. The project considers the sea (water) as a landscape in which fishing is a 'human' component. Therefore, fishermen will be involved in activities aimed at protecting the coastal area, participating in sea cleaning campaigns, study visits and trainings on the use of innovative methodologies. Furthermore, ADRINET will contribute to defining a common strategy and common tools and documents (MoU, Protocol, ERMP, Handbook) to provide guidance on how to apply different concepts of environmental and spatial assessment and planning in the risk management structure, focusing on the impact of fisheries on the environment. . These tools / documents can serve as a contribution that could be of interest to Policy makers working at different levels and levels. ADRINET envisages investments in technologies, equipping fishing vessels with RFID and GPS systems for mapping fishing routes and lost nets, monitoring marine pollution and preventing fish exploitation. Finally, ADRINET provides services, scientific support and skills to fisheries professionals and consumers to make fish consumption safer and in line with EU rules and guidelines. ADRINET is conceived and designed in cross-border mode. This is not only because of the chosen topic (environment) which is by definition a cross-border matter, but also because of the partners involved in terms of competencies (universities) and duties (PA).
