High school graduates applying for the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Montenegro are frequently interested in the opportunities of employment after university graduation, as well as in the complexity of studies which is rumored by the current or former students of the FSM.

Vice-dean for lecture of the Faculty, Assistant Professor Milan Bigovic states the fact that the majority of graduates from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, especially successful in terms of score, easily employ in Montenegro and beyond, as the answer on the first question.

‘Various exchanges, student mobility are current, large number of possibilities is offered, and significant number of our former students continued their scientific-academic career in renowned institutions in Europe and beyond. Adding an increasing demand for math professors in primary and secondary schools, possibilities offered by our faculty are clarified’, Bigovic says.

When it comes to the ‘complexity’ of studies at the faculty, message is always the same: if students perform their duties timely, have a correct attitude towards a subject, listen professors’ and associates’ advices, success will not lag behind and studying will be easier.

‘The fact is that fundamental and applied sciences are studied at the FSM and continuous work is required, both in experimental and computer exercises (which increase the quality of the preparation of exams), and a regular attendance to lectures is important as well’, he explains.

High schools students from: gymnasium, high schools of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, geodesy, transport, forestry, geological-mining, metallurgical, economics, chemistry, agriculture, medicine and maritime high school, have the right to apply at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics.

30 vacancies is foreseen for the admission of freshmen in academic 2019/2020 at study program Mathematics, 40 for Mathematics and computer science, Computer science - 50, Computing and Information Technologies - 30, Physics - 30 and 50 vacancies for Biology.

When it comes to lecture, Bigovic says that the PMF organizes regular experimental exercises for a large number of subjects, which are necessary for a good understanding of teaching content (especially from fundamental sciences, in the field of physics, biology and chemistry), and there are also regular exercises in computer laboratories in the field of Computer and Information Sciences. He also mentioned the experiences and skills that students acquire during their stay and training through various exchange programs.

‘In addition, by organizing events such as ‘Knowledge Olympiad’ and ‘Science Day’ (in which experiments in biology, physics and chemistry are performed), that have already become a kind of tradition of our faculty, a significant contribution is made to the affirmation of sciences and mathematics. This year, for the second time in a row, the Faculty of Science is the participant of the ‘Doors Open Day’, where our professors and associates give future freshmen information related to study programs and further activities after studies, as well as everything related to our faculty,’ Bigovic said.

POSTGRADUATE SPECIALIST STUDIES

Vice-dean for lecture, Miljan Bigovic, PhD also said that at the postgraduate specialist studies, lecture is organized into nine study programs for which the following number of candidates may be admitted: Mathematics - 20 budget and 10 self-financing students, Mathematics and computer science - 25 budget and 5 self-financed students, Computer Science - 25 budget and 5 self-financed students, Computing and Information Technologies - 30 self-financing students, Physics - 20 budget and 10 self-financing students, Biology-Ecology - 20 budget students, Biology classes - 15 budget students, Environmental protection - 15 self-financing students and Experimental biology and biotechnology - 15 self-financing students.

‘ At postgraduate master studies, lecture is organized in eight study programs, out of which seven programs: Mathematics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Physics, Biology-Ecology, Biology Education, Environmental Protection and Experimental Biology and Biotechnology offer 10 vacancies per program, whereas  the study program of Computer Science provides admission to 20 candidates, ‘ Bigovic said.

EXPECTATIONS

Vice-dean Bigovic said that expects full occupancy of all vacancies predicted for admission at undergraduate studies.

‘When it comes to postgraduate studies, interest is (especially for the reason that this is the last year of the specialist program validation since the application of a new accreditation program at postgraduate studies will initiate next year) thus we expect that the majority of vacancies will be fulfilled.
