Underwater Robotics and Acoustic Communications: Lecture by Professor Nikola Mišković and Roi Dijamant

On the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Montenegro there is implementation of the project MONUSEN ongoing (MONtenegrin Centre for Underwater SENsor Networks), financed by the European Union (EU) within the Program Horizon Europe. The project foresees organizing expert visits paid by lecturers from partner institutions (Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University in Zagreb), Newcastle University and National Research Council of Italy).

On Thursday May 11th and Friday May 12th lectures on topic Underwater Robotics and Acoustic Communication Systems will be held by prof. Nikola Mišković, from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University in Zagreb and prof. Roee Diamant from Haifa University that is ERA Chair carrier on the Faculty for Electrical Engineering of the University in Zagreb.

Nikola Mišković, a full professor in of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) of the University in Zagreb, where he teaches courses from the field of automatics. He is the manager of Laboratory for Underwater Systems and Technologies (LABUST). Currently, we coordinate one EU project, Horizon Europe. He participated in 15 European projects (Horizon Europe, H2020, FP7, DG-ECHO, INTERREG), out of which he coordinated FP7 CADDY, focused on developing underwater robot for interaction with divers; H2020 aPad , dedicated to commercialization autonomous vessels on surface developed in LABUST in the field of maritime robotics. Also, he participated in four projects of the Office of Naval Research Global, two NATO projects and seven national projects. He is winner of annual award FER for scientific achievements in 2022, and in 2020 he was awarded by IEEE Croatian section for exquisite engineering contribution in the field of naval robotics, especially development of innovative underwater robotic systems and autonomous vessels. He is the winner of annual state award for scientific achievements in 2015 and awards Vera Johanides Croatia Academy of Technical Sciences (HATZ) for best young scientists in 2013.

Roee Diamant is an associate professor at the Department of Marine Technologies of the University of Haifa and heads the Laboratory for Underwater Acoustics and Navigation. He received his doctorate from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia in 2013, while he obtained his undergraduate and masters degrees from the Technical College of Israel, Technion, in 2002 and 2007. From 2001 to 2009, he worked at Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in Israel as a project manager and systems engineer, where he developed a commercial underwater modem with networking capabilities. He was visiting professor at the University of Padua, Italy, in 2015 and 2016. In 2009, he received the Israeli Excellent Worker First Place Award from the Israeli Presidential Institute. Professor Diamant is awarded three awards for best marine work and he is editor of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering journal. He was the coordinator of the SYMBIOSIS project (BG-14 track) within the EU H2020 project, and he was appointed EU ERA-Chair at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. His research interests include underwater acoustic communication, underwater localization and navigation, object detection and classification, and sonar signal processing.

Lectures will be open for all interested researchers and students. Since the number of participants is limited, please apply for participation on mail monusen@ucg.ac.me , until Tuesday 09. 05. 2023.

Agenda is attached.
