The Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Montenegro, in collaboration with Siemens and the Chamber of Engineers of Montenegro, organized a round table on the integration of renewable energy sources into distribution and transmission power networks.

In his opening remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Budimir Lutovac, emphasized the importance of joint efforts by industry, the scientific and academic community, and civil society in transitioning to sustainable energy for a sustainable future.

"We are faced with unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The primary imperative is to mitigate climate change, which requires a green transition and the decarbonization of electricity production," stated Prof. Lutovac.

The discussion focused on the vital role of the power sector as an economic branch in modern society, with an increasing emphasis on sustainability.

Dean Lutovac highlighted, "The green transition, which involves moving from traditional, carbon-intensive economic models to sustainable alternatives, is crucial for the long-term sustainability of our planet."

At the round table, Siemens advanced systems for managing solar power plants, energy storage, and microgrids were also presented.

"Integrating renewable energy sources, though challenging, offers solutions such as the development of smart grids that enable more efficient management of power systems," added Dean Lutovac, stressing the importance of technological advancement and innovative approaches.

"Todays meeting confirmed that, despite technical and regulatory challenges, there is a clear path to the integration of renewable energy sources, which can significantly contribute to the stability and sustainability of power systems," concluded Prof. Dr. Budimir Lutovac.

The round table provided a platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas and laid the foundation for further improving cooperation between the academic community, industry, and regulatory bodies in achieving a greener future. Opinions from experts in this field from Germany and Austria were also heard.

This event is part of a series of round tables organized by the University of Montenegro to mark the 50th anniversary of its founding. Their goal is to consider key points that determine the further development of the Montenegrin community, produce concrete proposals for the improvement or redefinition of highlighted areas, including energy efficiency. The intention is for the clearly argued and precisely articulated proposals of our academic community to be published under the title Montenegro 2024-2034: Vision and Recommendations of the University of Montenegro and officially submitted to the Government of Montenegro and the Assembly of Montenegro for consideration, as well as to the entire professional and general public for review.
