MONUSEN organises a student hackathon to recognise the sounds of dolphins

As part of the MONUSEN (Montenegrin Center for Underwater Sensor Networks) project, financed in the scope of the Horizon Europe Programme, we are excited to announce an engaging hackathon challenge aimed at students from all educational backgrounds! This unique opportunity allows participants to tackle the real-world challenge of recognising dolphin whistles using authentic data collected from marine environments. Besides enhancing data analysis and machine learning skills, participants will contribute to ocean conservation and gain a deeper understanding of aquatic ecosystems.

If you’re a student (at any level - undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral), you can form a team of up to two members and register using the provided registration link.

Key Hackathon Information:

·         Registration deadline: February 28, 2025;

·         Kick-off presentation: March 3, 2025 (attendance is limited exclusively to registered teams);

·         Hackathon duration: Participants will have four weeks to develop and submit their solutions;

·         Evaluation: Following the initial evaluation phase, the top three teams will be invited to present their solutions in the final round;

·         Prizes: The top two teams will receive awards.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your skills, work with real-world data, and contribute to research in marine bioacoustics!

The hackathon is organised by the MONUSEN center from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Montenegro, in collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb, the National Research Council of Italy, and Newcastle University, who are partners on the project.
