Dragan Burić, PhD, Awarded by Acknowledgment for Special Contribution to Science and Research on the University of Montenegro

For his outstanding contribution to development of scientific research and international recognition of the University of Montenegro, Dragan Burić, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of UMNE, was presented with an award by Vladimir Božović, PhD, Rector of UMNE, during ceremonial session of the Senate of the University of Montenegro.

The award was granted based on proposal of the Faculty of Philosophy Council, which recognized his significant scientific and academic activities. In 2024, Burić, PhD, published five papers in prestigious international journals indexed in WoS lists (SCI/SCIE/SSCI/A&HCI), four papers in international conference proceedings, and two abstracts. He also served as a reviewer for nine papers in Q1 and Q2 category journals and one internationally relevant monograph.

He has been a long-time member of editorial boards of renowned geography journals and served as an editor of three scientific journals over the past year. He has participated in numerous international scientific conferences as an invited speaker, including the Sixth Congress of Geographers of Serbia and the Congress of Slavic Geographers and Ethnographers. His research focuses on climatology, meteorology, natural disasters, and boundary phenomena in geography.

Burić, PhD, is the author of two monographs and two university textbooks. Throughout his career, he has published 23 papers in WoS-indexed journals and a total of over 54 papers. His works have received more than 690 citations on Google Scholar, and his h-index across different databases is 13, 11, and 10.

During his career, he has been involved in international projects and initiatives, including Montenegro-Albania cooperation, the Cross-Border Emergency Program, Fors Montenegro, and the development of geospatial databases for solar energy in Montenegro and Serbia. As the Head of the Geography Study Program at the Faculty of Philosophy, UMNE (2020–2023), he initiated multiple academic cooperation agreements with universities in the region.

He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Priština and obtained his masters and doctoral degrees from the Faculty of Geography at the University of Belgrade, specializing in physical geography, with a focus on climate and extreme weather phenomena in Montenegro. He began his professional career at the Hydrometeorological Institute of Montenegro, where he worked for 27 years, and since 2017, he has been employed at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić.

His contribution to the academic community is reflected in mentoring masters students, developing curricula, and actively participating in international scientific conferences.
