On Saturday, April 5th, undergraduate and masters students enrolled in the course Conservation and Restoration of Wall Paintings and Mosaics, accompanied by Prof. Milica Kotur, MFA, and teaching associate Lidija Martinović, MFA, conducted a field-based professional class in Kotor and Herceg Novi, focusing on the challenges of wall painting conservation.

In Kotor, guided by conservator Jasminka Grgurević from the Center for Conservation and Archaeology of Montenegro and expert associate at the Faculty of Fine Arts, they visited important sacred sites: the Church of St. Luke, the Church of St. Mary Collegiate, the Church of St. Anne, and the Church of St. Paul. The students had the opportunity to directly engage with the issues and challenges in applying conservation-restoration principles and practical methods to wall paintings.

The field-based instruction continued in Herceg Novi, where the students visited the Savina Monastery complex—a significant example of the spiritual and cultural heritage of the region. In addition to studying the wall paintings of the old church within the complex, they also became familiar with the monastery’s rich treasury.

Such visits enhance the quality of teaching by allowing students to acquire practical knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of real-world challenges in the field of conservation and restoration.

Number of visits : 384
