The photography exhibition by students of the Faculty of Fine Arts Cetinje, titled “What the Image Says”, was opened last night in the lobby of the Technical Faculties, as part of the Festival of Art, Science and Culture – FUNK, organized by the University of Montenegro.
The exhibition of works by undergraduate and master’s students was opened by Prof. Mr. Lazar Pejović.

The curator of the exhibition is Mr. Sandra Đurović, teaching associate at the Faculty of Fine Arts Cetinje, who conducted the practical classes in which the exhibited works were created. The exhibition reflects the continuity of pedagogical and research work by students and teachers of the Faculty of Fine Arts Cetinje, aimed at developing contemporary photographic practice that connects artistic reflection and visual communication.

The medium of photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts Cetinje is represented through three courses at the undergraduate and two at the master’s level, focusing on exploring photography as a visual language and a means of communication in contemporary society. The teaching process covers a wide range of approaches – from experimental process-based exercises and formal research to complex authorial and multimedia projects.

A special segment of the pedagogical process is devoted to understanding photography as a communication tool within contemporary visual practices – between art, design, and media. Students are encouraged to develop a critical approach to the image: to explore how photography functions as a sign, a message, and a social commentary in a networked, digitally mediated world.

The title of the exhibition, “What the Image Says”, directly refers to this question – the ability of photography to communicate beyond representation, to interpret and transform reality. The exhibited works represent a cross-section of two years of student work, ranging from basic explorations of visual elements of the medium to developed conceptual and multimedia projects that question the nature of the image, its authenticity, and its role in contemporary culture.
