Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to explain the function of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM), explain image formation in scanning electron microscopy and its interpretation, explain making dimensional measurements in the SEM, describe the procedure for specimen preparation, explain the generation of X-rays in the SEM specimen, describe special contrast mechanisms; explain EDS and WDS qualitative analysis; presents quantitative X-ray microanalysis.
