EASA 2018_RIJEKA_INVITATION FOR STUDENTS

“EASA (European Architecture Students Assembly) is a network of students of architecture from all throughout Europe and broader. Each summer about 500 young creative people who live together in a self-sustaining community gather in a different country. The event lasts up to twenty-something days and includes lectures, construction and theory workshops, as well as other cultural and architectural contents. EASA operates as a platform for an exchange of social, cultural and architectural experiences. Primary focus of the summer gathering are the workshops in which around 30 groups of students work intensely on various projects which get to be finalized in the two-week duration. EASA workshops are diverse – from construction of architectural interventions and structures, discussions on hypothesis and concepts, photography, ranging from performance to dance, with the aid of different media.

At the annual meeting of representatives of the countries of EASA network held in Madrid from 1.-9. October, Croatian students of the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb composed of: Matej Antolković, Alma Antončić, Dora Gorenak, Enia Kukoč, Bruno Lang-Kosić, Vana Pavlić, Filip Pračić i Tijana Škrivanek, presented program RE:EASA, thus chosen from the competition of five teams as organizers of EASA 2018 in Rijeka.

RE:EASA will deal in actions relating recycling and reusing materials and space, but will also question our attitude towards sustainable development. The aim of RE:EASA is to prove that instead of a returning to nature and renouncing heavy industry, there is a need for finding new ways of waste usability and the already existing industrial heritage. A serious problem of the modern-day society is going to be accentuated - waste of material, space, resources and time. RE:EASA will become part of a wider cultural awakening of Rijeka within the program “European capitals of culture-Rijeka 2020: Port of Diversity”.

At RE:EASA workshops students plan to do a series of permanent architectural-urban planning interventions concerning waste and recycled materials, which are to remain in the area of the town of Rijeka, dispositional to local community. The meeting will be held during summer 2018.”
