Mission and vision

Scientific Research Centre (SRC) functions as an organisational unit of the Faculty of Medicine and seeks to increase the necessary resources and conduct competitive and modern research through integration of small, previously independent research groups. The focus of the Scientific Research Centre is on the adoption of an integrative approach for researching molecular basis and therapeutic modalities of various diseases, ranging from cancer to neurodegenerative diseases.

The Centre comprises the following groups of subjects for Bachelor’s degree and PhD programmes:

  • morphological (Anatomy, Histology, Embryology and Pathological anatomy);
  • functional (Medical Biochemistry and Chemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Medical Physiology, Pathological Physiology and Pharmacology with Toxicology) and
  • molecular genetics (Human Genetics, Basic Cell Biology and Basis of Molecular Genetics).

The Centre should also serve as a basis for the organisation of practical education for PhD studies, with a focus on the role of mitochondria and oxidative stress in various diseases.

The Centre intends to develop the research and wider social mission, as a driver of scientific activity and the core of developmental and innovative activities, through an interdisciplinary approach, strengthening of international cooperation (in the light of joining of Montenegro to EMBO/EMBL), doctoral training and strengthening of mobility of both students and teaching and scientific staff.
