Highest Interest for Admission on the Faculty of Architecture since Foundation of the Faculty

Interest in enrolling at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Montenegro, in the study year 2020/21, is the highest since foundation of the faculty. 125 applications were received electronically at 60 places announced by the Competition, out of which 110 were accepted. Candidates will take obligatory admission exam tomorrow, July 7, at 9:00 AM, in the building of the Technical Faculties.

Svetlana Perović, Vice Dean for Teaching at this faculty, points out that all participants in the admission exam are obliged to respect measures of the National Coordination Body for Infectious Diseases, to keep their distance and wear a mask, and that, for organization, it is necessary for candidates to gather in front of the entrance in the building of the Faculty of Architecture, tomorrow, July 7, at 8:30. The usual practice of admitting 50 candidates, which the Faculty initially defines, she points out, usually results in expanding the list to 60 or more candidates.

"Therefore, we for the study period 2020/21 initially proposed 60 places for candidates who will have the opportunity to study at the Faculty of Architecture. However, in addition to the obligatory admission exam and limited number of passable high schools, we are in a situation where we have almost twice as many candidates this year, " Perović said.

Out of that, she adds, a significant number of applicants are with excellent success, that is, with Luca's diploma. "It remains a regret that impassability of certain schools has deprived all interested candidates of the opportunity to apply and take the entrance exam. I believe that this barrier will be removed soon, because in the case of architecture, it has not proved to be an important factor, "said Vice Dean Perović.

According to the words of Vice Dean Perović, admission exam is of a qualification character, and it is conducted in the form of two written tests lasting three hours, within a four-hour total procedure. "Final grade on the exam was obtained as average value of grades of both tests. A negative grade on the test is eliminatory from the qualification procedure. First test refers to verification of general knowledge from the history of architecture and culture, and the second test to verification of the ability to understand spatial relations and logic. It is necessary to achieve minimum 40% of correct answers from each of the parts of the qualifying exam ", Perović explains.

According to the Rulebook, she adds, results of the qualification procedure and ranking list will be published on the website of the Faculty of Architecture, within official website of the University of Montenegro (www.ucg.ac.me).  Candidate has the right to object to the enrollment commission, within 24 hours from the publication of the results of the qualification procedure and the ranking list. "I wish all candidates a successful entrance exam, with the suggestion that a large number of registered candidates should not demotivate them, because we often witness that students with slightly lower success from high school excel at the entrance exam, and Luca diploma holders do not achieve the expected positive result”, Perović says.

For those who, however, fail to enroll in the Faculty of Architecture, she believes, it may be a comforting fact that among the most influential names in the world of architecture are the names of architects who have never completed a formal architectural education. "Among them are unavoidable names in the teaching of architecture and urbanism, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Miss van der Rohe, as well as one of the most influential Japanese architects of today, Tadao Ando, who was a professional boxer in his youth. Therefore, a message for all those who love architecture, that there is a lot of opportunity and that they should not give up ", Perović concludes.
