Tests of mental abilities, general knowledge and knowledge of psychology are mandatory for enrollment in the study program Psychology

The study program Psychology is the only program at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro that requires taking the entrance exam.

The head of this study program, assistant prof. Jelena Mašnić, PhD explains that the candidates take the Mental Abilities Test, the General Information Test and the Psychology Knowledge Test at the entrance exam.

“The mental ability test contains 30 problem situations and is solved in 30 minutes. It is a test of cognitive speed, concentration and attention, verbal fluency, arithmetic-logical reasoning and coping in space. Answers are offered and only one solution is chosen that is correct. It is a test of ability, so no special preparation is necessary for it", states Mašnić.

For the general knowledge Test, she says that it registers whether the candidates are informed about some concepts from general culture, which are not necessarily related to formal education. It contains 30 tasks and the time for realization is 45 minutes. Answers are also offered and only one correct one is chosen. This test does not require preparation either, because it is a reflection of the accumulation of knowledge during a longer period of schooling.

“The psychology knowledge test is the only test that requires prior preparation. Any textbook in the field of general psychology can be used for literature, and the most commonly used is the high school textbook of psychology whose authors are Žarko Trebješanin and Zoran Lalović. In this test, the statements are defined and the candidate rounds out whether they are true or false. Possibilities of recognition (recognition) are eliminated by the way of formulating claims. Thus, double negation may occur. That is why it is important to read carefully. The test takes 60 minutes and contains 60 claims", Mašnić explained.

The entrance exam is organized, as Mašnić points out, in order to single out from the group of interested those who, according to emotional, cognitive and conative potentials, have the necessary basis to promote a responsible attitude towards knowledge, good coping in stressful situations and interest to upgrade interpersonal and intrapersonal relations.
