Important Statement Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the broadest possible audience, regardless of ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers can read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements:

  1. Screen-reader optimization:

we run a process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others.

Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images. It provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts embedded within the image using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with popular screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.

  2. Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.

Additionally, keyboard users will find content-skip menus available at any time by clicking Alt+2, or as the first element of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, not allowing the focus to drift outside.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Disability profiles supported on our website
  • Epilepsy Safe Profile:

this profile enables people with epilepsy to safely use the website by eliminating the risk of seizures resulting from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.

  • Vision Impaired Profile:

this profile adjusts the website so that it is accessible to the majority of visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.

  • Cognitive Disability Profile:

this profile provides various assistive features to help users with cognitive disabilities such as Autism, Dyslexia, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements more easily.

  • ADHD Friendly Profile

this profile significantly reduces distractions and noise to help people with ADHD, and Neurodevelopmental disorders browse, read, and focus on the essential elements more easily.

  • Blind Users Profile (Screen-readers):

this profile adjusts the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is installed on the blind user’s computer, and this site is compatible with it.

  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired):

this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments
  1. Font adjustments – users can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  2. Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds with over seven different coloring options.
  3. Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  4. Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize essential elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  5. Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  6. Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  7. Additional functions  we allow users to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.
Assistive technology and browser compatibility

We aim to support as many browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS, and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and MAC users.

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs, there may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating, improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility following technological advancements. If you wish to contact the website’s owner, please use the website's form

Architectural Perspectives on Wood Reuse within Circular Construction: A South–Central European Study. Buildings 2024, 14, 560. This study explores the perspectives and practices of architects regarding the reuse of wood in construction across five South–Central European countries: Slovenia, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and Montenegro. Based on a survey of architectural professionals, this research explores their attitudes, challenges, and motivations for using reclaimed wood, with a focus on circular construction principles. Key findings reveal unanimous agreement among respondents that both their profession and government entities inadequately support or promote wood reuse within the context of circular construction. While architects value reclaimed wood, there are countryspecific variations. Environmental benefits, unique aesthetics, historical value, and sustainability are cited as primary motivators for reclaimed wood use. Additionally, respondents emphasize the ecological aspect as the most important consideration in wood product reuse, followed by economic and technological factors. Common concerns revolve around the long-term quality and maintenance of wood products. This research provides insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding reclaimed wood use in South–Central Europe, highlighting the need for support mechanisms and increased awareness to advance circular construction practices in the region. These findings can have mplications for architects and investors by identifying market opportunities, promoting eco-friendly practices, and providing valuable insights for future building designs with a focus on reclaimed wood elements within circular construction.

Bojković, V. (2024). Development of the City of Nikšić through the Planning Documentation of Croatian Architects. Prostor, 32 (1(67)), 156-167. The task of this work is to present three key urban plans, courtesy of which the city of Nikšić developed during its modern history. After liberation from the Ottoman Empire in 1877, Nikšić received its first regulatory plan, prepared by the architect Josip Slade Šilović (1828-1911) in 1883. The city developed according to this plan until the Second World War. After the Second World War, Montenegro became part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as a republic, and Nikšić became the city with the highest degree of urbanisation in that federation. This rapid urbanisation was directed by the second urban plan, carried out by the Urban Planning Institute of the Faculty of Architecture, Construction and Geodesy, Zagreb, in 1954-1958. The author of this plan was the professor and architect, Josip Seissel (1904-1987). The third urban plan of importance for the city was carried out by the Urban Planning Institute of Croatia, Zagreb, in 1984 and was adopted in 1986. This urban plan enabled a logical upgrade of the previous two plans. A result of these three urban plans by Croatian architects is Nikšić’s unique form and urban identity.

DOI: 10.5937/saj2203289Q In the global market of aesthetic sensations, good space turns into attractive product design. While aestheticisation attacks the space through digital cognitive stimulation, it is upsetting that day-to-day life is insufficiently treated in architectural design. With the necessity of considering space and life in conjunction, the research question is placed between the aesthetic imaginations of the conceptual and ethical requirements of the everyday. The initial hypothesis is that architectural space is determined by the dualism of different modalities, which affect the spectator's perception and the dweller's day-to-day life. That dualism of staged and authentic space manifests an increasingly conflicting relationship, which makes their common element, the concept of space, questionable. The research aim is to show that the architectural duality turns into an antagonistic relationship between two modalities (staged and authentic), caused by an aestheticised context, which glorifies the dominance of the visual and results in the translation of the architectural concept into a manner.

Rocznik Filozoficzny Ignatianum – The Ignatianum Philosophical Yearbook, Vol. 30, No. 3, pp. 445–461. PL ISSN 2300–1402. This topic focuses on the analysis of the symbolism of socialism in the tourist architecture of Montenegro in the second half of the 20th century. The research includes a multi-layered analysis of the emergence and development of tourist architecture in the area of the Montenegrin coast in the specific socio-political context of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The period to which the research refers is the time with a particular ideological message of socialism, not only as a unique political system but as a way of life with the dominant idea of social equality of all citizens and the period of the appearance of mass tourism and social tourism. This social phenomenon led to the construction of tourist facilities intended for the rest and recreation of workers, youth, and children. The study presents how entire complexes of tourist buildings and numerous tourist settlements were built in an undeveloped area, changing the natural landscape and image of the Montenegrin and Yugoslav Adriatic coast. This research shows how the symbolism of socialism was implemented in the architectural and urban concepts of tourist architecture through various spatial and functional relationships that propagated the idea of this period and created the identity of the researched area.

Conference proceedings ISCCGF - ZAGREB 2023 - International scientific conference on contemporary glass facades - ZAGREB 2023 Sustainable architecture implies the necessity for using natural resources to satisfy visual comfort and achieve energy optimization. Therefore, natural light must be adequately imported in office spaces, as well as take into account in the designing of an energy efficient building envelope. This paper investigates Windows to Wall Ratio (WWR) as an integral part of the climate adaptive building shell and their impact on the building's energy performance, aesthetic aspects, visual and thermal comfort. It reminds us how important it is to include WWR strategies in the early stages of designing new or façade renovating, taking into account local climatic characteristics. The paper yielded interesting results that appropriate WWR design can reduce the annual balance of energy consumption by 3.10% and cooling energy consumption by 13.89%. Case studies for office buildings in Podgorica are established to show which WWR are most beneficial and cost-effective for sustainable building envelope design or adaptation, in a developing country such as Montenegro.

Architecture Pop-up Lab Exchange (APLE) Project has been created in response to the assessment and critical feedback given by the architecture professionals on the competences of young architects that are seeking employment for the first time. Thus, the project strives to mediate between all the challenges and issues that emerge at the threshold between architecture school and employment. This can be achieved by bringing together the students and academic staff with the professionals through studios, workshops, Pop-up labs, in a common pursuit of improving the transfer of knowledge and fostering practice-oriented teaching and learning. New generations of architects will gain benefits from this initiative in increased competitiveness in the labour market and industry. The positive effects will be reflected in the socio-economic environment through engagement of the public sector. The implementation is focused on three objectives: 1. Innovation and development in the educational process and internationalization 2. Initiative and proactive approach to private and public sector, apprenticeship and proto-practice (design studios, contractors, material suppliers/producers, governmental and NGO institutions). 3. Technological research and teaching upgrade enabled by the Pop-up Laboratories as networking tool, comprised of Core Labs (physical lab space), Virtual Labs (online labs, projects database) and Temporary Labs. This mission of this project is grounded on the imperatives of improving study outcomes, skills and competences and employability of students. Having in mind its national, regional and international relevance, the project will ensure economic, cultural and social equity and distribution of activities across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro and include around 100 staff and 210 students directly benefiting from the APLE project and indirectly wider private and public sector.
