Foundation Konrad Adenauer published the publication Power of Culture: Multiculturalism and Modern Art presenting collection of papers from the third conference organized in Ulcinj in 2018 named “Power of Culture: Multiculturalism and Modern Artistic Practice – Ethnics or Interaction?”  

Editor of publication is Janko Ljumovic. Authors of texts are  Laslo Vegel (Identity in Chaos Era), Andrej Nikolaidis (What exactly do you mean when you say Cultural Nomadism?), Milica Nikolić (Multicultural: The most abstract political term or healthy social platform), Suljo Mustafić  (Multicultural and public policies), Jelena Mišeljić  (Transcultural aspects of European Film), Drita Lola (Art and Culture in Function of Urban Regeneration), Vuk Vuković  (Potential of Artistic Practice in Digital Media), Lućjan Bedeni and Tea Čuni  (Marubi: Museum may Change the Town) and Janko Ljumović (Multiculturalism and modern artistic practices).

In introductory part of publication Director of Foundation Konrad Adenauer Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes, and its editor Janko Ljumović wrote:                                                                  

“Before readers are texts of the conference participants who critically and creatively analyze policies of multiculturalism in different spheres of modern art and culture. Authors underline examples of good practices and particularly important aspect of new media that today significantly determine identity policies. In publication we may see examples showing that in dialogue of cultures may reach desirable interaction that not only do enrich our experience but also brings to new cultural geography of the Western Balkans countries in the process of European integrations. Topic of multiculturalism is especially heating topic in wider European context since we witness on different examples its review, especially determined by the migrant crisis in Europe, that in the existing context of the Balkans and post-Yugoslavian experience additionally problematize its implementation in practice.

Issues started in the Conference in Ulcinj, held in December 2018, formed into publication are important for further promotion of multiculturalism policy on a local, national, regional and European field of action.

Publication promotes different research approaches in multiculturalism analysis. We may read it as methodlogy of new and future oriented practice that may initiate a new wave of artistic practices that refer to current challenges of the Western Balkans countries. Publication may be inspirational for new interpretations, and assemblies for the stated topic that needs promotion in various ways, since archive of contemporary art is an important field for different actors of community, academic and cultural community before all. In this way narrative is established contributing to better understanding of idiom “power of cultures” being part of European tradition and modernism in whole.  

Culture is important resource for changing social paradigm causing title of the publication Power of Culture. Such attitude presents our contribution to fight against xenophobia and phobia of differences, mitomania, isolation, impossibility to cross borders – political and esthetical- we fight right through promotion of modern cultures and art practices that in interaction with community bring to strengthening and development of society.
