KONTRASTIVNA SEMANTIKA

After passing the exam, students will be able to: 1. Identify subtle differences in the meaning of words and expressions in both languages and achieve successful equivalence in translation. 2. Develop the ability to consider cultural differences between the two languages reflected in the existence of lexical gaps, regarding both isolated words and idiomatic expressions. 3. Achieve a higher level of communicative equivalence of translation in both languages. 4. Avoid false word pairing especially with regard to words with partial matching in meaning . 5. Critically reflect on the (un)justifiability of using anglicisms and, particularly, on incorrect, literal translations of certain English expressions that are unjustifiably prevalent in our contemporary informal language.
