International Coorporation- Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021–2027

In 2023, the European Commission awarded the University of Montenegro the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021–2027. Thanks to this Charter, the University of Montenegro gains the opportunity to participate in a large number of international projects, which will significantly support the further development and enhancement of teaching and research processes.

Based on this Charter, the European Commission grants accreditation to higher education institutions from program countries, allowing them to apply for and participate in Erasmus+ program projects. Since December of last year, this opportunity has also been extended to universities in the Western Balkans.

The Charter also serves as recognition of the University of Montenegro’s quality in European and international cooperation and, at the same time, obliges the University to adhere to the core principles of the Erasmus+ program. These principles include equality, transparency, and alignment of education standards with those of the EU. Through the Charter, the University commits to continue encouraging members of the academic community to engage in international cooperation—either through mobility programs or the implementation of international projects—and to continuously improve conditions for student and staff mobility in line with the practices of developed European universities.

In accordance with the priorities of the Erasmus+ program for the 2021–2027 period, UoM is also committed to promoting the participation of students from vulnerable groups in mobility programs, supporting activities that contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development, further digitalizing processes, implementing the Erasmus Student Card initiative, and creating conditions for the introduction and promotion of the Erasmus+ mobile app for University of Montenegro students.

The University of Montenegro (UoM) is strongly dedicated to the policy and idea of internationalization. The Charter is the result of UoM’s continuous efforts to ensure attractive conditions for scientific and artistic work, both for its staff and for international researchers, by creating high-quality prerequisites for short- or long-term incoming and outgoing mobility. Another goal is to attract a larger number of international students through academic openness and the offer of certain courses and study programs in English.

Internationalization efforts are also directed toward strengthening existing and building new partnerships with renowned higher education institutions from the region and Europe, based on the development of joint study programs at all levels of study, as well as the preparation and implementation of joint research and structural projects.
