The SAM4MI: Smart Acoustic Monitoring for Induction Motors using AI project aims to develop an innovative acoustic monitoring system for induction motors using artificial intelligence, enabling the estimation of key operational parameters—speed, torque, and current—based solely on the acoustic signals emitted by the motor during operation. This approach offers an efficient method for monitoring IM performance without the need for direct electrical or mechanical connections to the motor, while also allowing assessment of the motor’s operating condition and the need for timely preventive maintenance. Through an experimental setup that will enable sound recordings of induction motors under various load conditions and the training of neural networks, the project intends to develop a model capable of real-time prediction of the aforementioned parameters. The application of such a system could significantly enhance preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and control of electric drive systems, particularly in industrial environments where simplicity, speed, timeliness, and measurement safety are of critical importance.
