The Maritime Faculty Kotor of the University of Montenegro hosted a panel discussion on the topic “Academic Integrity – Meaning, Challenges, Dilemmas” on December 4, 2025. The panellists were representatives of the third convocation of the Ethics Committee: Mara Šćepanović, PhD, who also serves as the Committee Chair; Assoc. Prof. Duško Vujačić, Committee Member; and Mr. Nemanja Pudar, PhD candidate at the Maritime Faculty Kotor.

The event was attended by a representative of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation; members of the Ethics Committee of Montenegro; staff and students of the Maritime Faculty Kotor; colleagues from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality and the Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro; as well as representatives of the University Mediterranean. In her opening remarks, Dean Tatijana Dlabač, PhD, who is also a member of the Ethics Committee, welcomed those present. The panel was led and moderated by Milena Dževerdanović Pejović, PhD.

Aim of the panel was to present the role and responsibilities of the Ethics Committee and to clarify the key principles of academic ethics and integrity within the contemporary scientific and educational environment. In a dynamic and interactive atmosphere, participants discussed how fundamental concepts of academic integrity—courage, honesty, fairness, and transparency—are reflected in the work of teachers, students, faculties, and universities, and how they serve as a mirror of the academic community’s quality.

In the second part of the panel, attention was directed toward the challenges of modern scientific and pedagogical work, particularly in the context of the rapid development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence tools. Panellists offered practical recommendations on how to responsibly use digital resources and how verification and oversight can help preserve academic integrity and protect both oneself and others.

A large number of questions from the audience and an exceptionally active discussion confirmed the relevance of the topic of academic integrity within our academic community. We believe that yesterday’s panel represented an important step toward strengthening the culture of academic integrity.
