Ninth Science Open Day Finished

Together with the Historical Institute, the Biotechnical Faculty represented itself at the ninth festival of science days organized by the Ministry of Science from October 2nd to October 5th, 2019.

The festival was held at the Petrovic castle in Krusevac, under the slogan "Montenegrin Katuns - a multiple challenge for upcoming generations". During the two days of our joint presentation, visitors at the booth were able to learn more about the lifestyle of Montenegrin Katuns, the technology of producing traditional dairy products through a presentation and workshops organized by the Katun project team.

Also, some of the activities that are carried out in the laboratories of the Biotechnical Faculty are presented: taking, preparation for processing and analysis of soil samples, plant material, animal tissues, dairy products. The short video clips also show the work of the dairy laboratory, the food and nutrient analysis laboratories and the molecular genetic research laboratories. Visitors were able to enjoy the traditional katun’s dairy products they were exposed and to do a sensory evaluation of the product.

An educational presentation was also organized on the importance of fungi in forest ecosystems, manners in which they can be explored and collected and how a database on tangible and intangible cultural heritage is formed on the example of a database formed for katuns on Kuca Mountain. Visitors were enabled to research this database themselves.

During the festival our stand was visited. We were especially pleased with the visits and interest of students from primary and secondary schools (from all over Montenegro), as well as a large number of individual visits.
