Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. notice and explain the differences between formal and informal conversation; 2. identify and analyze a series of sound changes in English; 3. identify, analyze and use strong / weak forms with respect to the class of function words; 4. divide words into syllables, define and describe the structure of a syllable; 5. apply the basic rules while determining the position of stress in a word (simple / complex / compound).
