ICGEB calls for research grants for 2021.

International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) from Triest published call for research grants for 2021.

ICGEB research grants are funded through the Collaborative Research Program (CRP) which funds projects that specify original scientific issues of particular relevance to the host country but also of regional importance.

The program aims to support collaborative research within ICGEB member countries, promote the training of young scientists and facilitate the creation of an adequate research space. The program provides support to research projects in the fields of basic sciences, human health, industrial and agricultural biotechnology as well as biological energy.

Grants contribute to the implementation of outstanding scientific research projects. The maximum duration of the project is 36 months. The maximum annual contribution of ICGEB is € 25,000.

The funds can be used only for those costs that are directly related to the project: the purchase of consumables, scientific literature, basic laboratory equipment, as well as travel and training costs.

Salaries of leading researchers as well as infrastructure support (eg administrative and overhead costs of the institution, rental and maintenance of capital equipment, buildings, etc.) are not allowed and therefore cannot be financed.

The ICGEB member country can apply for 3 standard research projects and 2 additional Early Career Raturn Grants projects. Early Career Raturn Grants are intended to fund young researchers with outstanding experience who have spent at least two years abroad and recently returned to the country (a member of ICGEB) to establish independent laboratories. These researchers should not be over 40 years old at the time of application and should have returned to their country no more than 2 years before submitting the application.

The lead researcher submits the complete application electronically via the portal https://www.icgeb.org/activities/grants/ no later than April 30, 2021. A copy of the complete application documentation will be assessed by the National Contact Point for Cooperation with ICGEB, which should approves and continues to nominate submitted applications.
