Global collaboration on soil and water conservation in focus: Professor Spalević visits WASWAC

On Friday, May 31, 2024, Prof. Dr. Velibor Spalević from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Montenegro met with the leadership of the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC) in Beijing, China. The meeting was chaired by Professor Ning Duihu, President of WASWAC and a prominent researcher at the International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES).

The meeting focused on current issues and future activities within WASWAC, including joint project implementations, training programs, and research initiatives. Professor Spalevićs working visit to China was organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences - Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, aiming to strengthen international cooperation in soil and water conservation.

During the meeting, the participants emphasized their commitment to fostering global partnerships to enhance the effectiveness of soil and water conservation efforts. Productive discussions with WASWAC leadership marked a significant step forward in international collaboration in this vital field of ecology, biotechnology, and geosciences.

WASWAC, a global academic society, was founded in the USA in August 1983. The WASWAC Secretariat was initially located at the Soil and Water Conservation Society (SVCS) in Iowa, USA. Since October 2010, it has been housed at the International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES) in Beijing, China.

Professor Spalević is a part of the WASWAC leadership, serving as a Council Member and the Chair of the WASWAC Young Scientists Committee for the periods 2020-2023 and 2023-2025.

Lecture by Professor Hughes: The Glacial History of Mediterranean Mountains – From Morocco to Montenegro

Professor Phil Hughes, a renowned expert in geography and climate change, will deliver a lecture titled "The Glacial History of The Mediterranean Mountains: From Morocco to Montenegro" on Friday, June 7, in the Blue Hall of the Rectorate, starting at 11:00 AM.

The lecture is organized by the Center for Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies (CIMS) and offers an opportunity for all interested parties to learn about the latest research and findings in the field of glacial formations and their impact on Mediterranean mountains. Professor Hughes, who is from the University of Manchester, is known for his significant contributions to the study of climate change and its geological effects. His research covers a wide range of topics, including geomorphology, paleoclimatology, and ecological changes.
