The Annual General Meeting 2020 of the main mosquitoes control association EMCA was held on 2nd February 4-6 p.m. The meeting itself is the reason for this post, but the essential goal is to raise awareness among the academic community about the issues to which EMCA is committed. The idea is to share informations about the latest initiatives and activities of the Association itself.
It is quite important that at the time of one we do not ignore the other, potentially, greater danger. Or it is crucial at the time of the SARS CoV-2 pandemic, that we do not neglect vectors and vector borne diseases. The Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Montenegro has been dedicated to surveillance of vectors during last twenty years. The basic and most numerous molestants, also the most common invasive species of vectors, are mosquitoes. In addition to being insects that disturb people, mosquitoes are extremely dangerous as natural vectors of disease-causing agents. In Europe at the first place: Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, West Nile Virus, malaria... This is the main reason why the Biotechnical Faculty has been a member of the European Mosquito Control Association since 2015. It is interesting to remind that the 8th EMCA conference was organized under the auspices of our University, during March 2017. in Bečići.
Due to the restriction of travel caused by the pandemic, the EMCA Board, after two official meetings 24/06/2020 and 23/11/2020 with intensive internal communication and negotiations with the relevant Committees and in the presence of Regular Members of the Association, held an e-AGM / Zoom Conference. At the EGM members discussed, voted and adopted conclusions regarding:
- financial reports of the association for 2019 and 2020;
- bylaws revision which abolished the position of Executive Director, and transferred the authorizations and responsibilities to the President Elect;
- special attention was paid to preparation the plan how to strengthen the structure of the “Journal of the European Mosquito Control Association” JEMCA;
- it is agreed that the 10th EMCA conference will be held in Vienna in October, as part of which the next AGM for 2021 will be held.
Particularly striking was the awarding of the "Honorary EMCA Members" to the doyens of this profession who have dedicated more than four decades to combating hazards called vectors and preserving human and animal health to Mr. Norbert Becker, KABS Kommunale Aktionsgemeinschaft zur Bekämpfung der Schnakenplage  Biologische Stechmückenbekämpfung am Oberrhein Speyer Germany and Professor Peter Luethy Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, Institute of Microbiology; Zurich Switzerland.
The Biotechnical Faculty, of University of Montenegro, will continue to be an active and dedicated member of the EMCA.
