         Greetings from Crete

ImageWhen students choose an exchange program, a faculty, or a country they all have their own motivations, and Nikola Djurickovic, a student of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Montenegro, told us about his reasons for choosing Technological Educational Institute of Crete.

“I signed up for Crete because they have an excellent program for economy and business and the climate is very attractive, since you can wear shorts and T-shirts in November. Also, I like Greeks and after I met them I knew that I had made a good choice.”

What was your first impression?

“The first impression was negative because I got a very bad apartment and a landlady was very nervous. Luckily, my roommates from Germany and Czech cheered me up and improved the situation.

When I went to the Faculty for the first time I was not very happy, because I expected a bigger campus. I would like to mention my mentor Mr. Garth Owens who has always been ready to help me.”-said Nikola.

I have not noticed any cultural differences, because Greeks are similar to Montenegrins but they have a little bit better manners and they are always ready to help others.

“I do not think that they are not more developed than we are. Therefore, I cannot say what is so significant to be used in Montenegro. However, the biggest flaw of Greeks is their speed at the workplace, since they are always in a hurry,- noticed Nikola.

ImageThe advantages of a foreign study program are based on the fact that only important things should be learnt. For that reason, students learn less but they have better knowledge. “Professors are more relaxed and they always motivate their students to be more active.”-said Nikola and added that our main advantages are definitely better work habits.

“Because of classes I do not have a lot of free time, and when I have free time I usually travel and meet people from different countries. I have met many interesting and charismatic people. If I have to choose one special person from all of them, that would be my roommate Kai Schuler from Berlin. With his positive attitude and extrovert personality he makes my day”-said Nikola.

He had one small issue when he came to Greece; he had to borrow money from his parents since the scholarship was late.

He recommends all his colleagues to apply for any mobility program because “every student should experience something like this”. And what is the decisive factor for obtaining a scholarship?

“Probably the average grade (mine was B when I applied) and a motivation letter which represents your interest in studying abroad”,-concluded Nikola.
