Academic Integrity in the Faculties of Art

In artistic communities violations concerning academic integrity are very characteristic. Answers to some of often questions may be seen in the video, where Professor of the Faculty of Drama Arts Dubravka Drakic speaks.
Video transcript is given below:
"Violations concerning academic integrity are very particular when it comes to artistic communities. Unfortunately, we are dealing with stealing ideas. This is the hardest form of academic integrity violation.
Even from the earliest age, children even in elementary school find out about term copying. That copying is most often related to some paintings in lessons, when a teacher gives the task and children being without ideas of just being lazy to imagine, in most cases they look around to see what somebody started. Then kids get angry saying:” You see, he copied me”.
What happens? If the teacher does not react then it continues to other subjects and everything else which should be signal that students or teachers insufficiently appreciate initaitivty, creativity and imagination.
Since we expect from students to be very creative and have extraordinary sharp creativity and imagination, then the copying segment, stealing ideas, stealing motives or story for some scenarios or short movies or role to be played we find completely inadequate. That is in the sphere of arts, both in music and fine arts and drama completely unacceptable.
The facilitating category is that our students do public tasks and they are afraid of it. That is the great burden on our students. In the middle of public performance to cope with critics in that account.
Plagiarism is related to ideas also. In art and science especially modern art it often said that there is nothing new to invent and models and motivation are used by creation of an artist. This is the reason each opportunity should be used to name the artist who influence on us and to clearly and concretely name elements we have overtaken wanting to show them though our work in a new, own way.
Therefore, it is extremely important not use all of this above named in a way that we think that no one will recognize but to explore in a new way important and useful for us a creator or area that dominantly influenced on us as young artists to actually with deep respect, genuine admiration and gratitude for achievements of that artist of the time, prove through our creation how important this is and enlighten the creator’s deeds from a different angle.
Fortunately, here in the Faculty of Drama Arts there are small group of students and work of these groups is incessantly monitored by professors. Therefore, each task is monitored by everyday supervision of the professor, developing initial idea, following maturity of a student. So, when the possibility occurs is channeled on time and the student is simply not allowed to pass the exam. If still such thing occurs then it something being prepared for a long time since without good interaction between a teacher and student you may hardly be a student on faculties of art.
What we do in artistic spheres, luckily, shall not influence on the quality of life but it may influence on a complete picture of entire society. Also, we may monitor development from previous period and in the way we succeeded to revive cultural creators to build and improve institutions.
On the Faculty of Drama there are commissions that monitor the work of a student. Next to mentor and the students and the Commission for master papers that propose given topic. Also in the University of Montenegro there are commissions that check everything.
It is very important that students know how to use literature. That shows elementary literacy, respect of what is called professional literature, ability of students to make their own conclusions based on the literature as well to connect their personal experience with their tasks.
Every student that can shape his/her artistic progress will continue with thinking about the creation. Students should be encouraged since they really enroll their studies with prejudice. They should be encouraged to develop, to work and be persistent hence proving that it is very important that they are carriers of future development called culture and society where they create."
