Calling Notice for TIDE Hackathon 2018
The third TIDE1
Hackathon will take place from Monday 19 to Friday 23 March 2018 in Podgorica, Montenegro (MNE). The TIDE Hackathon is a key event annually organized by Headquarters, Supreme Allied Command Transformation (HQ SACT) and aims to promote innovation and Interoperability by Design in a federated environment.
Individuals and teams from national military, government, academic or industry partners and from NATO organisations are invited to take part in 2018 TIDE Hackathon. All participants must be from an Interoperability Platform nation2
The TIDE Hackathon builds on a conventional hackathon competition format. Teams of two or three people accept one or more challenges and develop solutions during a week-long event. The challenges fall under either a modelling or coding category; modelling focuses on concepts, business models and game-changing ideas, while coding follows a more traditional hackathon where the expected output is a combination of software/hardware working prototypes.
The output from the TIDE Hackathon will contribute to spiral specifications for Federated Mission Networking (FMN) by de-risking problematic areas and by providing innovative solutions to improve interoperability. The challenges are based on proposals collected during the Fall 2017 TIDE
Sprint and include:
a) Deployment of Coalition Cloud;
b) Mobile Chat and Situational Awareness Applications; and
c) FMN Distributed File Sharing.
In addition to prizes, the winning teams from each challenge will be provided with fund to subsidize their attendance at the 2018 Spring TIDE Sprint (Italy, 9-13 April 2018).
Due to capacity, the 2018 TIDE Hackathon is limited to 80 participants with registration on a first come first served basis; initial administrative instructions are at Annex A to this Calling notice.
Final administrative instruction including the definition of each challenge will be published in the 2018 TIDE Hackathon Handbook that will be available on the Tidepedia and HQ SACT websites in January 2018. Previous TIDE Hackathon handbooks and final reports are also available on Tidepedia. The points of contact for the TIDE Hackathon are:
