Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Montenegro

The Mechanical Department of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Podgorica, the predecessor of today’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, was founded in 1970. It became an independent faculty within the University of Montenegro in 1978. It is the only faculty in Montenegro dedicated to mechanical engineering. Throughout its history, the faculty has made a significant contribution to the country’s industrial development. In modern times, it produces professionals who play a key role in the development of entrepreneurship, manufacturing industries, energy, the IT sector, and the maintenance of all mechanical systems and facilities in the country. Mechanical engineering professionals remain in high demand both domestically and globally.

Vision

Our vision is to become the leading educational and research institution in the field of mechanical engineering in Montenegro by adhering to the highest international standards in education and research. Our goal is to make our institution, graduates, and research work appealing to both Montenegrin and international research and development institutions and business entities.

Academic Programs

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers academic undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs, following the 3+2+3 study model.

  • Undergraduate studies: 180 ECTS
  • Master’s studies: 120 ECTS
  • Doctoral studies: 180 ECTS

I - Study Programs at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The faculty offers three undergraduate academic study programs:

  1. Mechanical Engineering
  2. Road Transport
  3. Mechatronics

Each program provides a variety of modules that allow students flexibility and the ability to tailor their studies to their interests:

  • Mechanical Engineering: Energy, Production Engineering, Applied Mechanics and Design
  • Road Transport: Traffic, Transport
  • Mechatronics: Mechatronic Machines, Industrial Automation and Control

The faculty also offers five academic master’s programs:

  1. Mechanical Engineering
  2. Road Transport
  3. Mechatronics
  4. Energy Efficiency
  5. Quality and Standardization

The last three are interdisciplinary programs conducted in collaboration with the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality of UCG.

Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are conducted within the Mechanical Engineering study program.

II - Services for Industry and the Community

In addition to its educational and research mission, the faculty also fulfills a “third mission” by offering a wide range of services to society, primarily to state institutions and businesses. These services include:

  • Design and construction of mechanical components and systems
  • Homologation, testing, and certification of road vehicles and equipment
  • Inspections of measuring instruments in road transport
  • Development of infrastructure for the quality system in Montenegro
  • Solving technical issues related to transport machinery failures or deformations
  • Projects for the protection and rehabilitation of bridges, power plants, pipelines
  • Addressing pollution problems in certain municipalities
  • Contributions to energy efficiency legislation and related software development
  • Measurements in energy, process technology, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
  • Training and professional development programs in energy, road transport, design, and quality
