We Encourage Excellence in Science: Science, Nature, and Stanford’s List

Scientists from the University of Montenegro who are ranked in the top 2% of scientists worldwide according to the current Stanford list, as well as scientists who publish original works in the prestigious journals Science and Nature, will receive special awards for scientific achievements. These awards are provided through two new articles in the Regulations on the procedure, conditions for evaluation, and the method of rewarding employees for exceptional contributions to the development and international positioning of the University of Montenegro. The Stanford list publishes the names of scientists who fall into the top 2% most influential in their field of research, recognizing 22 different scientific fields and 174 subfields. The selection methodology for the most-cited scientists is predominantly based on the so-called composite indicator, which considers not only the total number of citations per publication but also the number of authors, or the position of the authors on the cited works. Awards for the most-cited scientists according to the Stanford list will be presented during the celebration of the University of Montenegros day.

On the other hand, the journals Nature and Science are considered the most prestigious and most-cited scientific journals in the world. Established in the second half of the 19th century, they now cover a wide range of scientific disciplines, have exceptionally high impact factors, and publish only extraordinary achievements in science and technology. Publications in these journals are valued for academic ranking, such as the Shanghai list, for example.

Through new categories of awards for outstanding scientific contributions, the University of Montenegro sends a strong message about its commitment and continuous efforts aimed at raising the quality of science and establishing standards of excellence in research and academic work. Excellence is precisely what we want to strongly encourage, promote, and nurture in the coming period, in almost all spheres of academic activity.

It is expected that this initiative will further motivate our scientists to strive for top-notch results, primarily because our academic community, and indirectly the entire society, will recognize and value the magnitude of these achievements. Also, such results will contribute to the international reputation and prestige of the University of Montenegro in global academic circles.

By supporting research work and promoting high standards, the University of Montenegro aims to build a stimulating creative environment for talented individuals from the country and the whole world, which will successfully contribute to the global advancement in the field of science and research.
