Held a lecture on Traditional Chinese Medicine

The Confucius Institute at UCG organized an online lecture on "Traditional Chinese Medicine". The lecture was given by Professor Wuji Xi, MD, Chief Physician and Director of the Department of Neurology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During the lecture, Professor Wuji Xi introduced the participants to the history of Chinese medicine spanning over 4,000 years. Also, there was talk about the origin of traditional Chinese medicine, which originates from ancient times. Over time, TCM has turned into a special and comprehensive theoretical and practical system. Apart from the theory that man and nature are connected, ying yang theories are also used. The Chinese believe that the common thread of various practices forms a system for balancing the functions of the body, and is based on the principles of ying yang and other metaphysical belief systems.
Those present had the opportunity to learn about the existing differences between TKM in the south and TKM in the west. Southern TCM emphasizes overall balance, the concept of nature and philosophical thought, uses acupuncture to adjust the internal balance of the body and gives importance to the subjective feeling of the patient. Western TCM, on the other hand, relies on modern scientific knowledge, relies on laboratory tests, where the focus is on standard treatment. In modern medical practice, more and more attention is paid to the integration of southern and western methods of treatment, with the aim of providing patients with the best care.
The final part of the lecture was devoted to acupuncture, cupping therapy, massage, etc. so the attendees had the opportunity to learn more about why these therapies are an important part of TCM.
