EIT HEI Initiative launches EIT HEI Call 2

The EIT HEI Call 2 are now open! Through this call, the initiative aims to help higher education institutions (HEIs) to design activities that will improve their entrepreneurial and innovation capacity.

Applicants’ activities can focus on several themes:

  • Fostering institutional engagement and change
  • Strengthening partnerships
  • Developing innovation and businesses
  • Enhancing the quality of entrepreneurial education
  • Creating and disseminating knowledge

Up to 40 consortia will be selected, and each selected project will be awarded a maximum of EUR 1.2 million. Funding Phase 1 will run from July to December 2022, and projects will be awarded a maximum of EUR 300,000 during this period. Upon successful completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 funding of up to EUR 900,000 will follow for the period from January 2023 to June 2024.

Some details of the Call:

  • The applicant/coordinator must be an HEI;
  • Consortium must include:
    • A minimum of three HEIs from three different countries, as follows:
      • One HEI must be the applicant/coordinator
      • A minimum two other HEIs in the consortium must be full partners
      • Minimum one HEI shall be an existing partner of an EIT KIC
      • The majority of HEIs shall not be partners of an EIT KIC
    • A minimum of one actor from another side of the Knowledge Triangle (e.g. regional/territorial authorities, VET organisations, RTOs, SMEs and start-ups). These actors may be full partners or associated partners.
  • An organisation may participate as a full partner in only one HEI application;
  • An organisation may participate as an associated partner in multiple HEI applications.
  • HEI projects selected from this HEI Call 2 will be distributed across two phases; Phase 1: July – December 2022 and Phase 2: January – December 2023 and January – June 2024;
  • Projects meeting certain criteria will be extended from Phase 1 into Phase 2 (successfully completing phase 1 projects can be extended to phase 2).
  • The total maximum funding per HEI project for Phase 1 is EUR 300.000 (THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND EURO). A minimum of 65% of the Phase 1 funding must be allocated to HEIs in the consortium which are not already existing partners of an EIT KIC at the start of the HEI project.
  • Upon satisfactory completion of Phase 1, an HEI project may continue to Phase 2, which will consist of an additional 18 months and an additional maximum funding of EUR 900.000. A minimum of 65% of the Phase 2 funding must be allocated to HEIs in the consortium which are not already existing partners of an EIT KIC at the start of the HEI project.

 

The initiative is also organising online info sessions to present the EIT HEI Call 2 in more detail and answer applicants’ questions. The webinars will cover eligibility requirements, evaluation, administration, and guidance on how to define an Innovation Vision Action Plan. The available dates for the info sessions are listed below. 

In addition, on 13 December 17:00−18:15 CET, the HEInnovate Team will run a webinar to help potential applicants with the use of the HEInnovate website. This webinar will focus on the use of the website and the self-assessment instrument. The webinar will be recorded and later published on the HEInnovate website. Register for the HEInnovate webinar.

HEIs must submit their applications in the HEI Initiative Application Portal  by 28 February 2022, 18.00 CET.
