Nikolić and Popa: The importance of the University in EU accession
Rector of the University of Montenegro full prof. Danilo Nikolić, PhD, met today the Ambassador, the Head of the European Union Delegation in Montenegro, Oana Kristina Popa. This is her first visit to the oldest higher education institute in Montenegro.
Rector Nikolić expressed satisfaction because he held first official meeting in 2021 with Ambassador Popa, emphasizing that it means continuation of successful and fruitful cooperation of the University of Montenegro and delegation of the EU in Montenegro.
During the meeting professor Nikolić represented the results of the work achieved during the previous three years, where the most significant results are in the field of international cooperation. During that period, the University of Montenegro participated in numerous projects, which value is the amount of almost 10 million euros, provided mainly from international funds. According to Nikolić, over 200 projects are currently being actively implemented in all organizational units, and within the most represented Erasmus + capacity building program in higher education, which is funded by the EU, the University managed to get as many as 21 projects in three years. seven, one coordinating and six partner. He also pointed out the successful and stable financial operations of UCG, especially in the year of the pandemic, when UCG had 14.87 million euros of own funds on its accounts at the end of the year.
During the meeting, Ambassador Popa expressed satisfaction with the University’s cooperation with European institution so far, as well as the University’s contribution to the EU accession process. Speaking of projects which are funded from EU funds, she emphasized the importance of the project Erasmus+ which brings an immeasurable impact on the better quality of work at the University of Montenegro.
Ambassador Popa and Rector Nikolić agreed that the University of Montenegro must be continuously developed and pointed out that the University must be an autonomous institution without the influence of politics in the management process. In this regard, Popa pointed out that the EU will monitor the development and work of the University, and that it will provide support to all European processes that are implemented at higher education institutions.
