The University of Montenegro Seat of the Regional Center for Fighting Cybercrime

With official announcement of the decision by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Government of Slovenia, the Science and Technology Park of the University of Montenegro became the seat of the Regional Center for the Development of Cyber Security Capacities of the Western Balkans.

The project "The Western Balkan Cyber Capacity Campus (WB3C)", launched through the French Presidency of the European Council, in partnership with the Government of Slovenia and aims to provide an educational hub to combat cybercrime security capacities in the region. This is an unequivocal confirmation of the University of Montenegro, whose strong support for this project is essential for the region and the EU, played a crucial role in deciding on the best location for the Center, for which UCG applied by letter of intent in March this year.

The Center will aim to create a regional structure for the fight against cybercrime through capacity development with a focus on educating members of the security sector and judicial officials to investigate and prosecute cybercrime crimes and strengthen the regional cybersecurity system, from cyber hygiene to prevention and management risk.

The Centers educational programs will be implemented in cooperation with European cybersecurity experts with the support of the "Balkan Institute of Science and Innovation of the University of Côte dAzur" (BISI), with which UMNE has concluded a Memorandum of Cooperation in Applied Research, Innovation Transfer and Modern Technology.

The University of Montenegro, as a platform for social and economic action in the country, has a leading role in the implementation of multidisciplinary study programs, as well as the internationalization of programs in priority areas as a key instrument for successful positioning in European higher education. By deciding to make the Science and Technology Park the location of the Regional Center for Cyber Capacity Development, UMNE got a strategic partner in developing a set of new multidisciplinary study programs in the field of cybersecurity and cybercrime, information and communication technology, digital information security, software and hardware protection, as well as modern Internet space management policies. Bearing in mind that the digital transformation and strengthening of national capacities for combating cybercrime through education and research is one of the most important strategic interests of Montenegro, UMNE will in the coming period establish a number of new lifelong learning programs in accordance with the Development Strategy (2019-2024) that will address the needs of the ICT industry as a national development priority.
