Centre of Excellence – Pioneer Venture in Montenegrin Science
Centre of Excellence in young universities, such as the University of Montenegro, is a true nucleus for everything we represent in development, believing that the University i not only educational, but also science and research institution, Radmila Vojvodic, prof., Rector of the University of Montenegro said on the second open day BIO-ICT Centra izvrsnosti (Centre of Excellence) organized within the week of celebration of the University Day.
„Doctoral dissertations at our University of Montenegro have rarely or never reached patent level , and the thing we do in BIO-ICT Centre of Excellence is a serious pioneer work“, Vojvodić said.
Reform which has been implemented for the last three years, Rector Vojvodic reminded, was not directed only on harmonization with European standards of knowledge, but also to raising quality of education and quality of work of research community reflected in presented results today.
She said that in the forthcoming period the University of Montenegro shall work more intensively on development of infrastructure and comfortable atmosphere for science and research work.
„We expect development of a serious idea in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and that is forming Technical Park in campus of the University“, Rector Vojvodić announced.
Open days are, as she thinks, opportunity for scientific results to become visible, but also tom, before enrolment period, encourage the best ones to come to the University of Montenegro.
A three-year research program of Centre of Excellence led by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Montenegro includes work of Biotechnical Faculty and Institute of Sea Biology.
„Contribution to strengthening Montenegrin economy through designing new products and services is the main goal of BIO ICT Centre of Excellence“, Dean of Biotechnical Faculty Miomir Jovanović, PhD, said, also calling entrepreneurs, among other partners in this project, to convey their impressions of commercial implementation of concrete products to the Centre of Excellence.
Veselin Jovović, representative of „Green House- Jovović“, said that inventions of BIO ICT Centre of Excellence provided him to electronically monitor irrigation and reduce manual work power and he expressed hope that a controlled irrigation system will contribute to better crops. „This potential of young people deserves to use their knowledge and to get a new product“, Jovović said.
Ilija Guskić, representative of COGImar from Kotor, said that with the help of a “smart buoy” they will get precise data at what time and with what food fish needs to be fed, while monitoring water quality provides them all information on conditions for fish breeding. As a useful product he mentioned Bioportal which provides them benefits through better access to clients and sale of products in foreign market.
