The international scientific meeting entitled Mutating virus of totalitarianism, organized by the University of Montenegro, the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Adam Mickiewicz University from Poznań, was opened today at the UMNE Rectorate. At the opening of the two-day conference, the rector of UCG, prof. Dr. Vladimir Božović and the president of the Organizational Committee of the Science Meeting, prof. Ph.D. hab. Boguslaw Zielinski. Rector Božović pointed to the fact that the University of Montenegro has for some time now opened its doors wide for major topics concerning the profile of social life, perspectives and those important things that determine the course of societys development. "This is one of those topics with which we have historical contact in a very clear and experiential way. Totalitarianism, in different formats, was felt by us and our ancestors. Tiny organisms eventually subjugate the planet, so it is with totalitarianism, at one point it will be almost unnoticed. Our task is to detect it in time and fight against its forms," he added.

The President of the Organizing Committee Zielinski explained the origin of the term totalitarianism and talked about concrete examples of its negative influence. "We undertake interdisciplinary research on totalitarianism and its modern mutations. We believe that the humanities together with the social sciences can and must handle this difficult task," he said and added that at the beginning of the 20th century, totalitarianism was not recognized by the great theoreticians of civilization, and that it was easier to believe that Europe was discovering universal systems and truths, than to accept the devastating fact that evil is an indelible part of humanity.

Second session of the International Conference named „Literal and lingual models of totalitarism” will be held tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the Blue Hall of the Rectorate.
