Construction works have begun, and area surrounding the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philology in Nikšić will soon take on a new look. The project is being implemented as part of the broader vision of the University of Montenegro’s leadership to improve university infrastructure and create an open, functional, and modern academic environment.

A place that for years served merely as a passageway between lectures and student obligations is now becoming a space for meetings, conversations, and ideas. The investment, worth more than €800,000, is not just a construction project—it is an investment in the daily lives of students and staff, in their breaks between lectures, gatherings, and the memories yet to be created.

The significance of this project extends beyond the students of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philology to the city of Nikšić itself, emphasizes Vice-Rector for Education, Veselin Mićanović, PhD, while outlining next steps and planned components of the project. “Reconstruction of pedestrian and traffic zone, installation of new materials and modern lighting will create a more organized and safer space, while new connection between faculties and student dormitories will symbolically and practically link their academic and residential areas,” Mićanović said.

Highlighting the importance of building an open-air amphitheatre, he pointed out that it will become a new stage of university life—a place where knowledge will be shared under the open sky, as well as a venue for events and other cultural activities. “We want to create an environment in which knowledge naturally meets the community, a space that connects architecture and nature, where learning gains a new dimension. In the coming period, as the works progress, it will become clear that we are not just building infrastructure, but an environment that fosters creativity, dialogue, and togetherness,” he added.

Investments in the Previous Phase worth More than €1.5 Million

It is worth recalling that in the previous period, around €510,000 was invested in the renovation of the interior and exterior of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philology building. This resolved long-standing issues with roof leaks and waterproofing, reconstructed the façade, repaired walls and ceilings, and replaced old metal fixtures with new aluminium joinery. The entire electrical installation system was renewed, with more than €650,000 allocated for this purpose, while approximately €30,000 was invested in upgrading the IT infrastructure. A more modern and functional working environment was further ensured through the procurement of new furniture worth around €300,000.

As part of the University of Montenegro’s commitment to energy efficiency and sustainable development, a project to install a mini solar power plant on the roof of the building was implemented in cooperation with the Electric Power Company, with an investment of more than €80,000. Through this project as well, the University of Montenegro reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that student life is not defined solely by classrooms and exams, but also by the spaces where friendships are born and nurtured.

€2.1 Million Investment in the Final Phase

The adaptation of the remaining part of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philology building, valued at €2.1 million, is now in its final phase. This stage includes modernization of the heating and cooling systems, installation of a modern VRF system, a new thermal insulation façade, and aluminium joinery with triple-glazed windows, ensuring optimal conditions for work and teaching along with significant energy savings. This phase also includes upgrades to classrooms, amphitheatres, and offices, giving the building a fully modern appearance.

Adaptation of the Sports Hall Underway

As part of comprehensive interior works, adaptation and equipping of the sports hall on the ground floor of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philology building is currently in progress, together with the associated changing rooms, sanitary facilities, and office spaces. The value of this investment amounts to approximately €380,000, and works are ongoing.
