Senate of the University of Montenegro Proposes 2.304 Places for Specialization and 589 for One-Year Master Study Programs

At today's electronic session, the Senate of the University of Montenegro determined proposal of the number of students for enrollment in postgraduate specialist studies at the University of Montenegro for the study year 2020/21 provided for 2,304 places and a proposal of the number of students for enrollment in one-year master's studies for the academic year 2020/2021 which provides for 589 seats. Proposal of number of students for enrollment in postgraduate specialist studies and one-year master studies (3 + 1 + 1) is determined in accordance with the license of the Ministry of Education.Submitted proposals are justified from the aspect of employability and demand on the labor market in Montenegro, spatial and personnel capacities of organizational units and expressed interest of students in enrollment. The Senate's proposal is to increase total number of students in each study program by one in specialist studies, according to the principle of affirmative action. Also, there are no major deviations in terms of the proposed number of students for enrollment compared to the previous academic year. The Senate was guided primarily by standards of teaching quality, estimates of the number of students who will enroll in specialist studies, and the material basis for implementation of an individual study program. Given that the University of Montenegro organizes budget for two-year master's studies for the first time this year, the Senate proposes that specialist studies and one-year master studies are organized exclusively as self-financing, which is in accordance with Article 122 of the Law on Higher Education. This Law stipulates that students enrolled in undergraduate, specialist, master's and doctoral studies before the entry into force of this Law, pay tuition fees in public institutions determined by the governing body of the institution with the consent of the relevant ministry.

An integral part of these decisions is the Opinion with the explanation of the Quality Assurance Centre of the University of Montenegro.

Proposals of the Senate UMNE will be submitted for further consideration to the Steering Committee UMNE, which will make a decision on proposal of the number of students for enrollment in specialist and one-year master studies, and the final decision that will be made by the Government of Montenegro.

Taking into account that preparations are underway for announcing the Competition for enrollment of students in the first year of undergraduate studies for the 2020/21 academic year, the Senate UMNE gave a proposal on the appointment of the Central Commission for enrollment in the first year of undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro, for the study year 2020/21.

Task of the Commission is to coordinate commissions for enrollment of students of organizational units, control their work, give more detailed instructions for conducting the enrollment procedure, decide on candidate's objection to ranking procedure and give press releases on this issue.
