The University of Montenegro - Biotechnical Faculty hosted the meeting, which took place on July 16th and 17th, 2024, in the Bar. The meeting was attended by 22 participants from European countries representing partner institutions: the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (KIS), Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD), University of Almeria (UAL), Agricultural Institute Skopje (IAS), University of Padua (UNIPD), University of Montenegro (UCG), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), and the RI.NOVA Organization.

During the meeting, participants focused on defining reference values for soil organic matter, adapting standards for organic carbon analysis, exploring “carbon farming” techniques, and developing socio-economic models. Strategic approaches to soil quality improvement, preparation of training materials, and monitoring the projects carbon footprint were also discussed.

In addition to the working sessions, participants visited the Old Olive Tree, one of the oldest olive trees in Europe, which is over 2000 years old. During the visit, the historical and cultural significance of this tree, a symbol of peace, health, and prosperity, was explained to the attendees.

A visit was also organized to the Olive House, a new facility in the Bar that serves as a center for all activities related to olive cultivation. Participants were introduced to the purpose of this center, which includes production, packaging and branding of olive oil, as well as analysis and training to improve product quality.

This event is of great importance for the further progress of the Carbon4SoilQuality project and the enhancement of cooperation among partners. The meeting facilitated knowledge exchange, the development of new models, and the strengthening of connections among participants, thereby further contributing to the projects goals and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
