If I wanted to briefly say what it means to be a mechanical engineer, then I would firstly say a saying about how our profession is seen by foreigners from countries where it is most developed. In America, mechanical engineering is called the so-called liberal art of engineering which in translation means the most widespread possible engineering, because it covers the largest number of processes and applications in technology in general.

Mechanical engineering is a profession about which the knowledge and principles of fundamental sciences and mathematics, acquired through study, experience and practice, are applied to make decisions based on them on how to use materials and forces of nature in the most efficient way for the benefit of mankind.

In answer to the question why you would be a mechanical engineer, I would take famous thought of Herbert Clark Hoover, the President of the United States, who said: “Being an engineer is a great profession. It is a great satisfaction when you look at the pieces of imagination that are first transformed into drawings and plans on paper with the help of science, then the realization starts using stone, metals and energy, and then families are created, homes and jobs are created for people. Eventually, there is an increase in people's living standards and an increase in the comfort of life. It is only the privilege of an engineer. ”… If young people find themselves in these visions, the job of a mechanical engineer is the job of the future.
