University of Montenegro Wins Gamechanger Award for Cybersecurity Project

The Cybersecurity Innovation Hub of the University of Montenegro, operating within the European university alliance Ulysseus, has been awarded a prestigious Gamechanger Award for best cybersecurity project of the year for implementation of educational initiative Cybersecurity Challenge Lab.

The Cybersecurity Challenge Lab was implemented as a national project within the Ulysseus alliance, involving students and young professionals from various academic backgrounds. Throughout a multi-month program, participants developed solutions to cybersecurity challenges in the modern digital environment, with mentorship support from experts from Montenegro and abroad.

The project was developed in collaboration with Women4Cyber Montenegro, the Parliament of Montenegro, Cikom, Sky Express, Un1quely, and the National CIRT, with a strong focus on integrating technical, legal, and organizational aspects of cybersecurity. This interdisciplinary approach enabled participants to learn through hands-on experience aligned with real-world practice and public policy needs.

The Cybersecurity Innovation Hub operates under the academic leadership of Prof. Dr. Savo Tomović, with Dr. Andreja Mihailović as Hub Manager and Branka Žižić as Project Manager at the University of Montenegro. The Hub is planning to implement several new initiatives aimed at further enhancing educational, research, and development activities in the field of cybersecurity.

The project was conducted within the Ulysseus European University network, which comprises the following institutions:

·         Universidad de Sevilla (Spain)

·         Université Côte d’Azur (France)

·         University of Genoa (Italy)

·         Technical University of Košice (Slovakia)

·         MCI | The Entrepreneurial School (Austria)

·         Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland)

·         University of Münster (Germany)

·         University of Montenegro (Montenegro)

All project participants were provided with an international study visit to Université Côte d’Azur in Nice, organized with support of the Balkan Institute of Science and Innovation (BISI) and Prof. Dr. Srđan Redžepagić. During this visit, they had the opportunity to explore innovative models of cybersecurity education and research within the Sophia Antipolis technology park.

This award serves as recognition of quality and relevance of the University of Montenegro’s educational initiatives in the field of cybersecurity, as well as its contribution to developing professional capacities and modern educational models at both the national and European levels.
