Biography - Ćulafić Stefan

Associate Professor Dr. Stefan Ćulafić, a distinguished academic and public servant, was born and raised in Podgorica, Montenegro. He completed his early education at the "Slobodan Škerović" Gymnasium, excelling in natural sciences and mathematics. In 2007, he began his studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Podgorica, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering by July 2010.

As a recipient of the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship, Dr. Ćulafić advanced his expertise with a year of study in Mechatronics at the University of Oviedo, Spain. He completed his specialist studies in 2012, obtaining the title of graduate mechanical engineer. Continuing his academic pursuits, he earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2015 and achieved his Doctor of Science degree at the University of Belgrade in 2021, graduating as one of the top three candidates in his cohort.

Dr. Ćulafić’s academic contributions are complemented by an impressive research portfolio. Since 2014, he has been a member of the research team at the Center for Engines and Vehicles at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Podgorica. He has authored numerous scientific papers in internationally recognized journals and presented his research at leading global conferences, with a focus on structural resistance and mechanical innovation. His early collaboration on Montenegros first robotic system showcased at the 2012 Innovation Fair, highlighted his commitment to fostering technological progress.

In 2022, Dr. Ćulafić was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Montenegro, where he specializes in mechanics and the resistance of materials. Over the years, his dedication to education has been recognized with various prestigious awards, including the "19 December" award from Podgorica, the University of Montenegro’s outstanding student award, and the Engineering Chamber of Montenegro scholarship.

Beyond academia, Dr. Ćulafić has been a prominent advocate for democratization, civic engagement, and societal development in Montenegro. A member of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) since 2010, he has contributed significantly to the political transformation of Montenegro. Through his two terms as a representative in the Assembly of the Capital City of Podgorica, he championed policies aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, promoting transparency, and enhancing local governance.

Dr. Ćulafić has played an active role in shaping the DPS’s strategic vision for societal progress. As a member of the Capital City Committee, the Executive Committee, and the Main Committee, he has worked to advance key initiatives focused on youth empowerment, educational reform, and fostering economic opportunities. His efforts have been instrumental in building bridges between academia, industry, and political structures to drive inclusive development.

Committed to fostering civic responsibility and democratic values, Dr. Ćulafić has participated in numerous public forums, workshops, and conferences aimed at enhancing Montenegro’s democratic processes and societal resilience. His vision aligns with fostering a modern, innovative Montenegro rooted in strong democratic principles, regional and EU cooperation.

Fluent in English, Spanish, and Russian, Dr. Ćulafić balances his professional endeavours with a fulfilling personal life. He is married to Bojana, also employed at the University of Montenegro, with whom he shares a deep commitment to the development and well-being of Montenegro’s society.
