Biography - Babić Marina

Marina Babić graduated from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts, in 1986 with a degree in English and French Language and Literature (four and three-year study programmes, respectively). In 1983 she received the Šturm Award for her first degree paper in French literature from the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. She obtained her M. A. in English from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philology, in 2011.

She started her teaching career while still a university student – she taught English and French in the Department of Foreign Languages of the Pionirski Dom Centre for Youth Culture in Ljubljana, Slovenia, (1984-1985, 1985-1986) − and since then she has taught, primarily English, at all levels of formal and/or informal education. In 1991 she joined the English Department of the University of Montenegro, Faculty of Philosophy (now Philology), Nikšić, as an English language teacher/lectrice, and in 2017 she was promoted to the position of Senior Lectrice. Prior to joining the University of Montenegro, she was a translator/interpreter for the English, French and Slovene languages at the Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy, Nikšić, (1987-1991) and held the post of a secondary school English teacher (1986-1987).

At the University of Montenegro she currently teaches English Grammar and Textual Analysis courses in the Department of English Language and Literature, and General English courses in the Department of German Language and Literature. She has also taught English-Serbian and Serbian-English translation courses.

She has published English-Serbian/Serbian-English translations and papers on English Language Teaching Methodology, and delivered presentations at English language teachers seminars and conferences.  She has been involved in the development of primary and secondary school English curricula in Montenegro (2003, 2017); she is currently a member of  the National Primary School English Curriculum Committee and chairs the National Vocational School English Curriculum Committee.  She has taken part in projects, programmes and seminars dealing with English language teaching methodology, assessment and testing, in-service ELT training, curriculum design, and education for democratic citizenship, both at home and abroad.  Since 2006 she has been engaged by the Examination Centre of Montenegro as a test item writer/reviewer for external English language knowledge assessments at primary and secondary school levels (2006, 2013, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017).

Certificates obtained: Colchester English Study Centre Certificate presented for an intensive course in English Teaching Methodology and Syllabus Design (2000), Oxford University Press Teacher Training Programme for Secondary School Teacher Trainers (2003), British Council Certificate awarded for the successful completion of a 120-hour training course, Primary ELT Trainer Programme (2004).
