Presentation of New Activities of UOM for a Better Position in the European Higher Education Area

The acting rector Danilo Nikolic Ph.D., invited newly elected managers and the representative of the International Cooperation Center to participate in the expanded collegium and to present the further activities which can improve the position of the University of Montenegro in the European Higher Education Area.

The president of the Governing Board Dusko Bjelica Ph.D., directors of the institutes, deans of the faculties and the president of the Student Parliament Sara Arriana Serhatlic attended the collegium.

Irena Orovic Ph.D., presented new activities which are aimed to improve the quality of scientific, professional, and pedagogical contributions in academic community.

“One of the priorities of the Scientific Board is to be impartial in the process of evaluation of materials and to express opinion about scientific/artistic, professional and pedagogical contributions of the candidate based on documentations.”-said Orovic.

Among many other activities, she mentioned additional defining of particular criteria for academic titles.

Professor Orovic said that academic improvement will be focused on publications in different scientific disciplines with the aim to improve and develop science and to motivate individuals, University and all social communities.

The Scientific Board will suggest categorization of magazines at the University of Montenegro which belongs to the international bases and revision of the list of remarkable international publishers.

“We are preparing new suggestions regarding measure for academic titles, grading of references in classification of bibliography”-added Orovic.

The president of the Center for doctoral studies Predrag Miranovic Ph.D. spoke about a necessity to hold meetings of the Center more often and about providing the organization plan of teaching process at doctoral studies at particular university units and mutual teaching process of methodology scientific-research work at the faculties provided for that.

He said that the University would carry out the self-evaluation before international evaluation process carried out by the European association of Universities. Self-evaluation should contain the opinion of academic community which will be similar to the recommendations by international evaluators after May 2018.

Sanja Pekovic , assistant professor, presented the activities of the Quality Assurance Center and a plan of future activities. The special attention will be given to the improvement of study programs through practice, new collaboration agreements and development of professional competencies and skills. Therefore, the Center will be in charge of monitoring of practice.

The feedback is very important and for that reason the Centar will conduct a survey on teaching quality. The open days of the Center for students and academic staff will be defined.

Pekovic announced the adoption of Codex of plagiarism, and usage of TURNITIN software for detection of plagiarism, and trainings for quality survey improvement.

Harmonization with the European standards will be improved through student mobility as well. Pekovic announced the Info day with the Western Balkans Alumni Association (WBAA), survey, mobilization of European experience in the creation of programs of Good quality and academic performances of UOM.

The representative of the International Cooperation Center, Ana Dragutinovic, said that the applications for IPA, HORIZON 2020, COST and other programs, even as a partner, can overcome disadvantages and achieve better quality of teaching and research process. All calls for these programs are published on the web site of the University.

Dragutinovic said that at this moment the Center conducts all activities in accordance with Internationalization Strategy of the University from 2016 to 2020.
