Representatives of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) visited the University of Montenegro to mark the 50th anniversary of its founding.

The Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Božović, expressed gratitude for the visit and briefly presented the planned program for the Jubilee celebration, a key component of which is the promotion of the monograph "50 Years Since the Founding of the University of Montenegro." The monograph, which has been significantly contributed to by CANU academician Ljubiša Stanković, highlights the historical context and development over the past five decades. Meanwhile, numerous events, including roundtables discussing strategic development plans for the country in various sectors, have been organized. These discussions involve all faculties of the university and will be presented to the Government of Montenegro. The central event, scheduled for April 29th of the current year, will be the highlight of the celebrations.

CANU President, Academician Dragan K. Vukčević, expressed deep gratitude towards the institution for its crucial contribution to Montenegros culture and intellectual development, remarking, "The 50th anniversary of the founding of the University of Montenegro is the most significant cultural date this year in Montenegro.” Academician Vukčević emphasized that the University has played a decisive role in creating the countrys intellectual elite. Without the existence of this university, Montenegro might have been significantly less developed, with limited capacity to face the essential challenges of the modern age.

The Jubilee of the University of Montenegro is celebrated as a major cultural event for the country, emphasizing the institutions key role in shaping the intellectual life and societal development. Academician Vukčević also highlighted that both the University and the Academy are crucial institutions concerned with the intellectual advancement of Montenegro as a nation, and their role is essential for the countrys long-term development.

The Chairwoman of the University’s Managing Board, Prof. Dr. Rajka Glušica, announced that 2024 is dedicated to the University through various events and activities celebrating the Jubilee. Scientific conferences and numerous forums have been organized in its honor. She also emphasized the essential need for the University to open doors to young people, thereby strengthening the institutions human resources, rejuvenating it, and advancing Montenegrin society as a whole.

CANU Vice-President, Academician Ljubiša Stanković, expressed particular satisfaction that the two most significant institutions in the country jointly celebrate the biggest cultural event of the year in Montenegro. He noted that the Jubilee is also marked by the release of two books. The first is a monograph that, despite numerous challenges encountered during its creation, compiles historical data and context from when the University was founded five decades ago. The second book, an announced Lexicon of Science and Higher Education in Montenegro, highlights the importance of these projects in terms of education and development in Montenegro.

This collaboration underscores the deep connection between the Academy and the University with Montenegrin culture and society, highlighting the importance of their role in creating and supporting the intellectual elite and progress of the country.

At the end of the visit, CANU President, Academician Vukčević, in honor of the Jubilee, presented Rector Prof. Dr. Božović with a painting by CANU academician Dragan Karadžić entitled "East of the Letter."

Attending the meeting from the University were Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Dr. Irena Orović; Vice-Rector for Teaching, Prof. Dr. Veselin Mićanović; Economic and Financial Advisor, Marina Banović; PR Manager, Vesna Vukadinović; and from CANU, Secretary-General Academician Dragan Radonjić, and independent advisor Vesko Ninković.
