Agreement on Cooperation Signed at the Third Rector Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans

Danilo Nikolic, PhD, the Rector of the University of Montenegro has participated at the Third rector Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans in Mostar, on February 7th and 8th.

Academic inter-institutional Agreement of Cooperation aimed at improving of joint cooperation among members of Rector’s Forum was unanimously adopted. This inter-institutional Agreement replaces bilateral agreements between signatories.

‘The Agreement will be basis for various forms of cooperation of the higher education institutions in the field of scientific research work, joint scientific projects, as well as within teaching activities. In particular, there is enough space for cooperation on projects within different programs funded by the European Commission, such as Erasmus+, with the aim to improve the capacity of human resources and mobility in higher education. Rector Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans has assumed obligation to improve the quality of higher education through cooperation of different bodies of universities by signing the Agreement today’, the Rector Nikolic emphasized.

Nikolic has also emphasized that signatories of the Agreement will actively participate in consortium preparing calls for projects funded by national, European or international institutions. The Agreement will support inter-institutional mobility of teachers, researchers and PhD students, creating a network of available bilateral and librarian resources.  

Next to Rector Nikolic, also Dusko Bjelica, PhD, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the University of Montenegro, as well as rectors of universities from regional states: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Slovenia and Serbia participated in the Forum.

Zoran Tomic, PhD, as a host and Damir Boras, PhD, who outlined the conclusions of the second Forum of Rectors held in Zagreb last year, addressed in the opening part of the Forum.

In the session on condition and perspectives of higher education in the countries of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans, Prijic Samarzija, the Rector of the University of Rijeka spoke about initiatives of Rector’s Forum in terms of European policies, and topic presented by Ivanka Popovic, the Rector of the University in Belgrade referred to the establishment of the community of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkan countries. 

Host of the fourth Rector’s Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans will be the University of Montenegro and Igor Papic, PhD, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana is selected for Chairman.
