Awards for special contribution to the development of the University of Montenegro
Rector of the University of Montenegro, Prof. Dr. Danilo Nikolić, presented awards for special contributions in development of scientific and artistic results, and in international positioning of the University of Montenegro to 20 professors and scientists from the organizational units of the University. Also, he presented three awards to University professors for their contribution and promotion of science at the University within the international frame in 2020, and a special recognition to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Montenegro, for special efforts and contribution of its professors and students in this year which was marked with fight against the pandemic cause by corona virus.
On the occasion, Rector Nikolić reminded the audience about the joint successes of the academic community of the University regarding the number of published research and scientific papers, citations and project activities.
„Due to joint efforts and adjusted modalities of work, we have managed to enable continuity and quality of teaching process, research and scientific work and international cooperation “, he stated.
"Number of citations of our scientists at the Google Scholar is currently over 140 000, which is a seven times increase in relation to the beginning of the campaign to achieve visibility of scientific and research results, which started three years ago. University participated in a large number of projects, with value over 10 million euro, gained mainly through international funds, which represents almost 10% of our total incomes", said Nikolić.
Additionally, through the Erasmus+ programme, due to successful project applications, we gain new income. The University is successfully positioned amongst the best world universities, according to the renowned Times Higher Education ranking, in the category of the best young universities up to 50 years, where it is positioned within the category 350-400 the best world universities.
"Due to recognized scientific results of our scientists and successful international ranking, University was awarded with the HR Excellence in Research logo, a prestige recognition by the European Commission, as a confirmation of our quality and competitiveness of our scientific and research activities. We have also adopted the Policy for open access to research infrastructure at the University of Montenegro, the first such document adopted at a higher education institution in region, confirming a dominant striving of the University of Montenegro for a scientific excellence", Nikolić said and added that the Doctoral School was established in this year, and we have applied for accreditation of the first study programme in English language, which presents a significant step in internationalization of doctoral research.
He also pointed out that the Strategy of Internationalization of the University of Montenegro 2021-2026 was just adopted, which represents an academic agenda and functional frame to increase international educational, scientific, research, artistic visibility and recognition of the University.
Development of the Doctoral School, Strategy of Internationalisation and accreditation of the first study programme in English language is realized within two Erasmus+ projects Fostering Internationalization at Montenegrin HEIs through Efficient Strategic Planning (IESP) and the Reforming doctoral studies in Montenegro and Albania -good practice paradigm (MARDS).
„Achieved results and ongoing activities are the confirmation of scientific excellence and competitiveness of our academic community, as well as continuous dedication of the University of Montenegro in creation of incentive measures and mechanisms, which contribute to development and international affirmation of Montenegrin scientific results, such are awards for excellent scientific, research and project results, for which we have allocated over 400 000 euro only for this year“, Rector concluded.
