The Confucius Institute at UoM marked the International Day of the Chinese Language
International Chinese Language Day is traditionally celebrated on April 20 every year. On this occasion, in a crowded hall at the Faculty of Economics of the UoM, the Confucius Institute prepared a cultural program for visitors and lovers of the Chinese language and culture.
The event was opened with her speech by the director of the Confucius Institute at UoM, Doc. Dr. Milena Lipovina-Božović.
"This day is an exceptional opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of the Chinese language, and to recognize together the importance of multilingualism in our increasingly connected world. Language is not only a tool for communication, but also a tool for the transmission of culture and ideas. Today we celebrate this event by promoting the Chinese language, but no less the universal skills that we gain by knowing the language, which are better understanding, more effective communication, strengthening cooperation, openness and preserving diversity," said the director of the Institute in front of UoM Lipovina-Božović.
She reminded of the importance of the Chinese language itself, which, as one of the oldest languages in the world, has a special wealth and history that stretches back thousands of years. Today, the Chinese language is spoken by about 1.3 billion people in the world, which makes it one of the most widespread in the world.
"Besides being the most widespread language, Chinese is important because of its role in international business, technological and scientific development, and China as one of the largest economies in the world has a significant role in the global market," said Lipovina-Božović.
It is for these reasons that the Confucius Institute at UoM has played an important role in the promotion of the Chinese language and culture in Montenegro for eight years and in raising awareness of the opportunities that the Institute provides to all those interested in learning the Chinese language.
The secretary of the Confucius Institute, Tamara Bulatović, led the attendees through a meaningful program in which the attendees could: (a) hear the story of the origin of Chinese characters, (b) enjoy the performance of several songs in the Chinese language, (c) discover how one of the course participants Chinese language changed their lives, (d) understand the role of martial arts in Chinese culture, and (e) attend the award ceremony of the calligraphy competition.
After the official program, the attendees had the opportunity to participate in an interactive program that included: an exhibition of calligraphy works, a Chinese tea ceremony, fun games, and Chinese food tasting.
