Massive Open Online Course on Marine Litter (MOOC)

Massive Open Online Course on Marine Litter (MOOC)

UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Open University from Belgium and Netherland, which is specifically dedicated to online education and research, are organizing “Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)” on Marine Litter, as part of UNEP Clean Seas initiative to fight against marine plastic pollution. The course and the initiative contributes to the goals of the Global Partnership on Marine Litter aiming to change and transforming habits, practices, standards and policies globally to dramatically reduce marine litter and the harm it causes to marine environment and human health. All actors need to be aware, engaged and active in addressing the problem, which requires strengthening the awareness and knowledge on the topic and actual and potential solutions.

The MOOC on marine litter shall present different options and tools to combat marine pollution and teach how to apply successful and inspiring activities through action oriented learning. Understanding the issue of marine litter triggers research and innovation needed in finding suitable solutions in global and local context. The course has two blocks – leadership and expert track. A certificate of participation can be obtained by students after their completion of both the Leadership Track and the Expert Track.

The course starts on October 26, 2020 and is free for all students. You can register on this page. The MOOC is available in 10 different languages (leadership track) and 3 languages for expert track. Instruction for enrollment can be viewed here.
