Biography - Zindović Jelena

Jelena Zindovic works as an Assistant Professor at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Montenegro. She pursued her BSc (2000) at the Agricultural faculty of the University of Belgrade and earned her MSc (2006) and PhD (2010) in Plant Pathology from the University of Belgrade (Serbia). In her thesis she pionered the work on plant viruses in Montenegro and contributed to understanding the importance of these pathogens for the local agriculture. At the time of her MA studies, she was engaged by the University of Montenegro to set up the Plant Virology Programme at the Biotechnical Faculty. In 2006, she established the first Plant Virology Laboratory in Montenegro and four years later she designed and delivered a course on Plant Virology for the graduate students of the Biotechnical Faculty. Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in Plant Virology and Plant Bacteriology and undergraduate course in Biochemistry.

She was awarded a Postdoctoral scholarship by the Joineusee Erasmus Mundus Program and spent one year (2012-2013) at the University of Bologna (Italy). In 2016, she earned a competitive National Excellence Postdoctoral Scholarship from the Montenegrin Ministry of Science to perform one-year research at the Centre of Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP) in Madrid. She has greatly benefited from different international programs/scholarships working in the leading Plant Virology laboratories abroad such as the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia (2001), Texas A&M University in the USA (2004), Institute of Plant Virology in Turin, Italy (2006-2008), Wageningen University in the Netherlands (2013), Research Centre for Plant Pathology in Rome, Italy (2015) and Benaki Phytopathological Institute in Athens, Greece (2019).

Her research work focuses on diagnostics, molecular characterization of plant viruses and plant-virus interactions. She was involved in a number national and international projects (FP7, ICGEB, COST, IAEA, etc.).

Jelena Zindovic is a member of the working group for the preparation of negotiations on the accession of Montenegro to the European Union for the negotiation chapter 27 "Environment" according to the Decision of the Government of Montenegro (Decision No. 06-38/5 of 17.01.2013, "Official Gazette of Montenegro", No. 9/12). She was appointed by the Ministry of Science as the liaison officer for Montenegros cooperation with the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB). He is a member of the editorial board of the Turkish Journal of Agriculture - Food Science and Technology.
