Biography

Bogdan Asanovic was born in Podgorica, Montenegro where he started studying cello at the age of four under tutelage of his father. While he was studying with his father he competed and won several different string competition in Montenegro, fmr Yugoslavia and two 2nd places at International Competition “Petar Konjevic “for solo cello.

At a very young age he had his first solo performance with Montenegro Symphony Orchestra performing Vivaldi cello concerto in e-minor.  When he was a junior in high school he decided to apply to be in an exchange program where he will spend his senior year in United States. During his senior year at Centennial HS (Franklin, TN) he was offered scholarships from five different universities from across United States

He decided to study with Tess Remy-Schumacher at the University of Central Oklahoma  (UCO) where he earned his Bachelor of Music in May of 2012. In his second semester at UCO he had his first solo recital in the USA; where he performed with the UCO Chamber Orchestra. That same semester he won UCO Concerto Competition where he got the opportunity to perform Haydn Cello Concerto in C major with the UCO Symphony Orchestra. During his sophomore year he won 1st place at Oklahoma MTNA solo competition and 2nd place at the Regional MTNA that was held in Fayetteville, AR. In his senior year at UCO he was awarded Teaching Assistantship from his cello professor for the school year 2011/12. Mr. Asanovic was actively involved in the UCO Outreach program in which he taught cello lessons and held sectionals at the several local middle and high schools for three years.

After graduating from UCO in May 2012, Mr. Asanovic was awarded Teaching Assistantship from Texas Tech University (TTU) where in August of 2012 he started pursuing a Masters of Music degree (cello-performance) while studying with prof. Jeffrey Lastrapes. During his studies with prof. Lastrapes he was successfully performing his TA duties such as teaching group classes (low methods classes); teaching lessons (Undergraduate TTU students) etc. For the Spring 2014 he was awarded College of Visual and Performing Arts TTU scholarship in addition to his TA position. For the 2013-14 performing season he was a section cellist in a Lubbock Symphony Orchestra under direction of maestro David Choi. At the end of his studies at Texas Tech, after being recommended by the faculty, he became a member of the Pi Kappa Lambda – honor society.

Throughout his studies in USA he successfully performed in Master-classes with such cellists as Steven Isserlis, Tilmann Wick, Peter Stumpf, Alexander Rudin, Julie Albers, and played under maestros Pavel Baleff, Richard Rosenberg, David Choi, David Becker etc.

He recorded for labels Xolo music (Germany) and Equilibrium (USA) performing for eminent US composers Michael Daugherty and Dr. Sam Magrill.
